BECOME A COMMUNITY BUILDER: A HOW-TO GUIDE

+

UNDERCOVER Exposing the far right sheds light on the inner workings of far-right extremists and their influence, which came to a head in the racially motivated riots that shook the UK this summer.

The aftermath of the riots demonstrated the incredible power of community cohesion. Local residents up and down the country came together to counteract the violence by protecting those that were being targeted and repairing damaged property - creating a united front against the far right.

It is important to make sure that people across the UK have the opportunity to continue this resistance and build up resilience within our communities to the far right.

JOIN THE MOVEMENT

There are many amazing charities and organisations across the UK working hard to combat far-right extremism and hate and  rebuild community cohesion - and they need your support.

Some of these are listed below so you can learn more about what they do and how to get involved.

HOPE not hate
HOPE not hate is the UK’s leading anti-extremist organisation. Alongside its research and investigations into the far right, the organisation also works to combat the drivers of hate and promote social cohesion through community engagement and activism - defending Britain’s multicultural and multiracial society and building our resilience to division.

Stop Hate UK
Stop Hate UK is an organisation that is committed to challenging all forms of hate crime and discrimination across the UK.

It provides dedicated support to East and Southeast Asian victims of racism and other forms of hate, and operates the UK’s only anti-hate crime reporting service that offers people round-the-clock access to independent support and information. Stop Hate UK also offers educational programs and training initiatives that aim to help combat hate in all its forms.

Runnymede Trust
The Runnymede Trust is at the forefront of the fight against racial inequality and the rise of far right extremism in the UK. As an independent race equality think tank, the organisation conducts cutting-edge research and advocates for systemic change to build a more just and inclusive society.

Through its work it aims to hold policymakers to account, address issues of racial disparity, and provide the evidence needed to dispel damaging and discriminatory narratives.

Citizens UK
Citizens UK is Britain’s biggest and most diverse people-powered alliance. The organisation unites communities by building relationships between residents, civil society organisations, members of local and national government, and businesses to challenge social injustice and promote fairness. This includes addressing attitudes around immigration and supporting refugees to foster cohesion and build a better, fairer society.

Community Security Trust (CST)
Community Security Trust (CST) is a Jewish-led organisation, central in the UK’s efforts to counter anti-Semitism and combat the far right. CST supports Jewish communities by providing security advice, training, and incident response to protect against threats. The organisation works closely with law enforcement, tackling extremism and hate crimes directed at Jewish communities across Britain.

Tell MAMA
Tell MAMA (Measuring Anti-Muslim Attacks) is a pioneering organisation focused on documenting and addressing anti-Muslim hate in the UK. As the only national project monitoring anti-Muslim incidents, Tell MAMA provides a critical resource for victims of Islamophobia, offering them a platform for support, advice, and reporting.

DEMAND CHANGE

+

If you’d like to go a step further to demand real change from the government, you can contact your MP and present them with your policy asks.

UNDERCOVER Exposing the far right brings to light a number of important issues around the rise of far-right extremism.

These groups rely heavily on division to drive hate, but you may want policy makers to fight back. You can ask them to champion the values of multicultural liberal democracy in our society and rebuild cohesion and resilience within our communities.
